This age group is just beginning to explore their world. We provide lots of hands on activities to nurture their desire to touch, taste and feel. We take pleasure in coloring gluing, and finger-painting. We also love to read stories, sing songs, jump and climb. We introduce beginning concepts like shapes and colors. We love to crate things with play dough, we dress up and play roles. When we get tired, we take a nap. Our days are busy, busy, busy, busy, but we learn a lot and have fun along the way.
This age bracket is ready to learn. We focus on beginning concepts (shapes, colors, letters, counting) in the twos and expand on them in the threes (letter writing, sounds, counting). We love to go outside and explore our world through climbing, stretching, and running. We read stories, sing songs, and enjoy healthy foods and take a rest after lunch. One of the most important things we work on is or social skills. Learning how to get along with others, follow a routine, wait in queue, share with others and listening and following directions are keys to being successful in school and in life.
This age group’s main goal is to be prepared for primary school, that is why we have conferred with the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) to structure our program around what is required for the children to know before they start school. We focus on communication skills – letter writing and sound recognition, name recognition, reading sight words, writing, listening and following directions. For mathematics, we focus on identifying numbers 0 – 30, counting to 100. Sorting, grouping, measurement, coin recognition and graphing. We enhance our program with art, music, science and outdoor play. By learning these important skills and following a structured routine, children from our program transit to primary school with ease.
